of mud, statesmen, aspirant leaders and rancid reporters...

The last couple of weeks have been quite interesting on the South African political front. That seemingly teflon clad young gun found the back of his swanky clothes to have been made of wool. No amount of bluster, threats of legal action, feigned indignation and vile utterances were enough to deflect the unwanted attention of reporters and a whole country into how Juju Baby could afford to wear a fairly decent studio apartment on his left wrist. A growing fleet of luxury vehicles, a pad in the golden square of Gauteng real estate and another "weekend mansion" in the home town is a bit more than one could acquire on the back of a R 20 000 salary.

The questions rained thick and fast and the denials came quicker. A hastily briefed lawyer soon found himself in danger of jettisoning what may have been a promising career leading to a hasty retreat and shifting opinions on what was essentially an open and shut matter. Julius should have come clean about his ownership/ stake in these companies and quickly moved to how he was not an executive and as such not involved in the day to day running of these entities. Hard to believe but a little more plausible than I have no interests when there are records galore to indicate otherwise.

Those pesky reporters will not roll over and die Juju Baby. They have a job to do and they take it as seriously as you take yours.
The biggest lesson in all this is that Juju has learnt that while he may look like Teflon he is Wool and the lint will stick. Slowly at first but steadily indeed. John Terry ( paragon of marital virtue - not ) had something interesting to say about those that have words concerning other peoples' affairs and we all know that Juju has lots to say about that - those in glass houses must not throw stones. Effectively - one should be ready to give as good as they get or rather not give at all. Hope Juju learns to take it. I doubt he will stop giving.

The noise surrounding Juju is dieing down. The saddest part of this is that a huge lot of us have lost interest because we have grudgingly come to accept that this is what politicians do. They stuff their pockets and deny it. So there will not be an official investigation into Juju's affairs and he will not be sanctioned at least not by the spineless ANC whose members ranks are littered with many requiring censure for greater crimes than Juju's one. If anything Juju's indiscretions will be a handy weapon in the hands of his detractors come the next round of king-making lobbying within the ANC.

So the esteemed President of our blooming democracy went on a trip to Buckingham Palace. The timing could not have been better - FIFA has just come through and assessed our readiness for the World Cup 99 days away and given us a strong pass, noone in England at least will want to know anything about Juju's millions, a fully paid for honeymoon in royal accomodation for the latest wife and well you know it is an overseas trip - we all want those right?

Maybe not. JZ would rather have stayed home methinks. For all the censure and rebuke that JZ has to bear in South Africa our media has out of respect for the Office of the President and doubtfully the President himself been rather gentle in calling JZ out on his moral conduct and compass or lack of either and or both. Zapiro has slogged out a few more rounds than most ( bless him ) but the rest have varyingly tried to be circumspect. The British press however have trumpeted what every second Saffer has been saying in private and at times not so private conversation.
JZ obviously has a sexual problem. He is an adulterer, more likely than not reasonably corrupt and for all his positive traits is too prone to having any mud thrown at him stick than any sitting President should.
The British press may have been harsh and deemed to be having been a little short on respect but have they lied? Have they made anything up? Are there any descriptions that they have used which on a balance of probabilities do not describe JZ or his conduct, thoughts and speech aptly?

I suggest not and therein lies the real issue. JZ is tainted and the British have no fear to say it.
Those pesky reporters will not roll over and die JZ Baby. They have a job to do and they take it a little more seriously than it appears you take yours. Perhaps if you cleaned up your act a little more Mr. Jacob G. Zuma President of our Republic a little less mud will stick. You cannot stop reporters writing about you but you can influence what they write. Give them an excuse to write something you would like to read. Your call Sir !!
